Internet Marketing has come down to being just a Data Dump! There I said it!
I do not know where to start on this subject, but suffice as to say, I have been marketing online now forever. I got my first Apple 2 computer, in, I think, 1981 or so, and have not really looked back since. So like all of us, I have seen the rise of many a trend on the internet, and the speed at which they come and go, seems to be speeding up, as perhaps we all knew it would?
However, there are several important aspects that have remained, throughout all of this other volatility, and I believe strongly, that, that is all you really need, to concentrate on, to get ahead of the pack, on the Internet. Trying to stay on top of the data dump, will only bury you, in info overload, most of which is not necessary to learn, let alone lose sleep over?
It still all comes down to learning, some new, but relatively basic skills, to set you apart from the masses, and, to give you control over your new little empire. So, try not to get caught up in the next best thing, but rather concentrate on learning the skills that will carry you through all of your online endeavours over time. There are now, and will remain, some basic skills, that will forever and always, be apart of doing any marketing online.
Learn to enjoy writing, because when you are on the information highway there is a lot of writing to be done, in all aspects of your business. The other must learn areas, are web hosting/c/panel, which, once you get into the back end of your webhost, you will find, that it is easier than you imagined. That combined with learning the ropes of a good website builder, be it the likes of Dreamweaver of Kompozer, or just finding a good online service, that utilizes templates, it is obvious why designing sites quickly will put you ahead of your competition.
While you follow the gurus, and all the other info product distractions and launches, the other guy is busy putting up sites quickly and writing ads and moving forward. Now, that is not to say, I haven't been a victim of buying the latest and greatest products online. I have watched and observed many a product launch, to witness how others are doing it, and this can indeed be a valuable lesson, to apply to your own business. But the bottom line of internet marketing is, that you have to market, I know that sounds cliche but there are many people caught up in the wrong daily endeavours that are ultimately holding them back.
It still does all come down to having your own website on your own host that you control, that is when you can really call it your own. Also a good practise is to rely on those that have been there done that, and if you have been online length of time you will know who they are and whom to pay attention to and whom to avoid, just takes some Googling and reading.
I found that Ewen Chia is an originator and master when it comes to online marketing and following him has been one of the best moves of my marketing career. The best advice I can give, is to do/learn what needs to be done, to move YOU forward, not the other guys;-) You must keep moving forward daily, that means never stop marketing, daily ads, daily articles, daily web design and an undying belief in yourself, to be able to attain the goals you have set for yourself. Oh yeah, on Goal Setting, one final thought, set realistic small attainable ones to start.
Reaching your goals, is the best medicine, for moving your whole operation forward. Good Luck in all your endeavours.
